There's nothing new about water conservation, as far as the Meiners Oaks Water District (MOWD) is concerned. "Actually, we've been pushing drought since 2012," said Mike Hollebrands, general manager.
And the Meiners Oaks numbers for water use seem to show it. Water consumption in May 2015 was down 43 percent from May 2014, Hollenbrands said Friday, while consumption was down by 23 percent in June, not too far from where it should be.
With four active wells serving 1,280 connections, the MOWD qualifies as one of the state's smaller providers.
