With applause from the audience, the Ventura County Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve a variance allowing a metal building on Sisar Road in Upper Ojai to remain where it is and to allow the completion of construction.
This vote signifies a rare shift for the commission in diverging from county staff’s recommendation, which in this case was opposed to the variance. But the Planning Commission felt it had to take action, based on how the need for the variance arose. Due to errors by the county, and one admittedly by the applicant, commissioners expressed dismay at the process in County Planning and Building and Safety, and wanted to make things right.
