An accounting question from a new school board member this spring has led to a disheartening conclusion: someone embezzled money — more than $60,000 — from the Ojai Unified School District (OUSD).
That person, the OUSD and local police suspect, is Ladonna Fulcher, a longtime senior accounting assistant in the district's business office. Fulcher was arrested July 2 on suspicion of grand theft embezzlement, after other staff members discovered more than two dozen checks Fulcher allegedly issued for things like rent, cell phone service, and car and loan payments. "She admitted this is her rent," said Andy Cantwell, OUSD's assistant superintendent of business and administrative services.
