Budgets: they can be tedious and stressful, but for small, local organizations, being included in the city’s budget can make a huge difference in continuing operations. The city often has a stake in seeing these organizations flourish as well. According to the city of Ojai’s statement of financial principles, the overarching financial philosophy of the governing board is “to manage the resources of the city in a prudent and conservative manner that supports the economic, social and environmental values of the community.”
The Ojai Arts Commission, Ojai Friends of Locally Owned Water (F.L.O.W.), Ojai Historic Preservation Commission, the Ojai Valley Green Coalition (OVGC) and Ojai Valley Museum each approached the Ojai City Council requesting additional financial support in the 2015-2016 fiscal year budget. Similarly, the Libbey Bowl Foundation, while not requesting money, did request the city resume management of the bowl at the close of this year.
