Recently the Ojai City Council voted, 3 to 2, to continue to allow the Planning Commission to conduct so-called "pre-meetings," in the same the way it has done for about 20 years.
There was never any formal charge or allegation of impropriety against any of the volunteer commissioners, or that anyone has any intention of doing anything unethical or illegal during these meetings. But those who brought this issue to light point to the the simple fact that discussion on a matter before the commission is taking place outside the public view, and this raises a red flag.
Planning Commissioners have said these meetings — which are held a few days before each Planning meeting at Ojai Café Emporium — are important in helping them understand complex issues they must vote upon.
