Ojai’s zoning regulations do many things — including preventing your neighbor from opening a zoo or concert venue in a quiet residential area, for example. There are also the rules governing those wishing to operate a transient rental, like those offered through Airbnb, Inc. This process allows the city to issue a business license, do an inspection of the property and collect taxes from revenue made this way.
Despite this, only one such property has obtained a conditional use permit (C.U.P.) for a transient rental in residential Ojai since the municipal code was revised 20 to 30 years ago.
