Ojai Valley organizations and residents are making gains in getting the County of Ventura to transition away from herbicide use along the Ojai Valley Trail.
Currently, the county’s weed abatement plan depends on glyphosate — an herbicide recently linked to cancer by the World Health Organization. Glyphosate is sprayed along the trail to combat the nasty puncture vine, infamous for its “goat heads” which can puncture bicycle tires, shoes, horse hooves and dog and human feet.
Recently, with support from County Supervisor Steve Bennett, these groups presented a comprehensive plan to manage the trail without herbicides.
