Students at The Thacher School continued one of the Ojai Valley’s oldest traditions last weekend during the final Thacher Gymkhana event of the year.
Toad riders break into three teams in the springtime and compete in several different events, all aimed at demonstrating their ability to communicate effectively with their horses. There is pole bending, barrel racing, figure-8 racing, hurry scurry (a jumping event) and key hole (run into a mark on the ground), as well as Thacher's signature event, the silver dollar pickup, where riders must pick up a silver dollar from the ground as they ride past.
