An anonymous Good Samaritan saved a dog from a house fire on the corner of El Roblar Drive and Padre Juan Avenue Wednesday afternoon.
Calls to 911 came in around 1:43 p.m., according to Mike Lindbery of the Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD), and firefighters from Station 22 in Meiners Oaks were on scene less than 5 minutes later. They upgraded it to a working fire, calling in additional units from Ventura County and the city of Ventura, and knocked it down at 2:04 p.m., Lindbery said.
No one was at home at the time, and though a bedroom sustained extensive fire and smoke damage, Lindbery did not think the home was a total loss.
